Musicians and Their Cars

Around 1983/1984 when I was a car stereo installer, my boss at Rich’s Car Tunes in Watertown, Massachusetts gave me a ride in his 1957 Chevy Bel Air hot rod with an immense music system in it. The purpose of the system wasn’t huge output levels, but much more about balance, clarity, and detail. Rich played The Beach Boys Holland (cassette tape) through the system, and the seamless top-to-bottom frequency response and shocking dimensionality was otherworldly. That moment absolutely changed my life.

In 1996, I purchased a 1988 Chevrolet Caprice police car (called 9C1) and restored it including a reference playback music system. Because of this car and some well populated forums (see Box Chevy Movement and others on FB), I have established social media relationships with over 400K enthusiasts worldwide—and from places all around the world such as Mexico, Iraq, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, France, Sweden, and more, plus all over the USA. The conversations have touched upon nuts-and-bolts issues as well as plenty of interesting social commentary, which has reinforced for me how we all share much more in common than what divides us.

Additionally, my current home in Saint Petersburg has a huge mural culture, and I have had so much fun shooting my car with the wall art created by these amazing artists. I have included a gallery of Caprice-related adventures for your browsing pleasure. Click on the pics to learn more about these amazing artists. Enjoy!
